Hello I’m Eugene. I’m 38 going on 20. I live in Belarus now, but my soul is somewhere in Norway.
I’d been a photographer for more then10 years. In 2015 just before we finished our photography career, my wife and me won a lot of awards at the Belarus Photographer of the Year competition and even the 3d place as the best Wedding Photographer of the year.
After transitioning to sales eight years ago, I started as a specialist in foreign economic activity. And now I’m a branch manager
When it comes to my hobbies, I’m all about the active life! I really enjoy jogging, and I try to do it almost every other day in any weather, be it rain or frost or whatever. In summer I like water-sports such as windsurfing and wakeboarding. In winter it’s off course alpine skiing.
So.. how did I get involved in the frontend? I lacked creativity and that was just a luck to stumble upon Front-end while looking for Ux/Ui. It seemed like a joke to me, but… One day I downloaded several video lessons about HTML CSS. After I tried it I was literally hooked.
First I got into RS a year ago at stage 0. But I couldn’t finish it because I got sick and missed a lot. But I went to the next stage 0 course which started in June. That course was really amazing for me! I got a lot of experience there. I made a landing page in which I had to create a slider, login forms, purchase books, work with local storage. Next, I made a media gallery with birdsongs and an audio player. I used the Unsplash API to create a searchable photo gallery. And at the end of the course we had to make a game. I made a copy of the Flappy Bird game but with a Halloween theme. My daughter gave me the idea as it was the day before Halloween.
So, I am currently studying at the stage 1. It’s really hard because always lacking time. Each day I spend all the rest of the time learning new information and making tasks after coming back from work without any displeasure from my daughter and wife, whom I get used to see quite rare. But there are a lot of interesting topics and tasks here. For example, in the coffee house task, I was challenged to make a progress bar under the slider, but I did it. Hangman and nonograms were interesting and challenging. Especially in nonograms, writting several algorithms that would fill out the clues and pictures correctly.
After 8 months in RS I can say that I am really keen on front-end development and I really regret that I didn’t try it earlier. I do appreciate this course and people who created it, support and help students.
When it comes to my skills… Thanks to photography I can easily communicate with people, feel color, light and composition and of course being familiar with Photoshop. Thanks to my current work, I learned how to plan my day well, to choose the right priorities, to set tasks for myself and my colleagues, to be responsible and stress-resistant. I understand how to lead a team, work in a team and be a part of a team.
My English When I was a photographer I worked in different parts of Europe such as Norway, Ireland, Belgium, France, etc. This may sound ridiculous, but I didn’t speak English that time. At all. As my wife speaks English fluently, there was no necessity for me to learn English. I just used some phrases that I needed to take pictures. But I realised that English is required. I’ve been learning English for about a year, simultaneously diving into the world of programming… Step by step… Little by little.. But I do it every day.. And now I can read school assignments without Google translator, it’s great!
